The People’s Energy Charter evolved to address the lack of comprehensive public participation in Ireland’s Energy Policies. In the absence of a long term, sustainable energy vision for Ireland we remain open to a developer led energy pathway. This has been the case for oil, gas, wind and the grid.
These resources are common assets which span the generations. They are not there for any one generation to exhaust at the expense of future generations. We must meet the needs of our current generation without compromising the needs of generations to come. We have a responsibility to those generations to see that they are not squandered and that we act in their interests.
It takes long term, joined up thinking to plan sustainably. A vision. That requires responsible people willing to lead change working with everyone in all communities making up the nation.
