Can “Just Transition” fail to be a transition that is just? Definitely. What is needed is a national transition strategy that is just, in compliance with the Aarhus convention, respects everybody equally and supports everyone affected. That must begin immediately. Ultimately this lack of a coordinated, whole of society action is a gross injustice to the young people of Ireland, the world and future generations.

Climate Dialogue, Covid19 Ready, in 7 steps
In 2016 the Irish government announced a National Dialogue on Climate Action. Only 4 events have been held within the past 4 years so it falls on the current government to ensure that dialogue proceeds at pace. In a Covid19 world how will that happen? Convene a National co-ordination team: First and foremost there hasContinue reading “Climate Dialogue, Covid19 Ready, in 7 steps”
National Lottery Funding for the Environment
In 2013 there was a campaign to have national lottery funds allocated to the natural environment. The list of beneficiaries eligible for funding was under review and as environmental matters are grossly under funded this seemed like an ideal opportunity to have some much needed funds go towards the environment. I remember it as aContinue reading “National Lottery Funding for the Environment”
Want to Participate? Here’s how!
As a follow up to my previous post here is the information, context and questions contained in the long term strategy survey – consultation. Take time to devise responses, perhaps in a document format and then copy and paste them in before December 31st. I have filled in the first 3 to show you itContinue reading “Want to Participate? Here’s how!”
NPF Submission
Submission to National Planning Framework Ireland 2040 Our Plan . Chapter 1 – High Level Objectives . Incorporate the definition of sustainable development. The term is mentioned 20 times within the document without being defined. I propose including it with the list of 4 high level objectives. Perhaps include it as a quote, our intentionContinue reading “NPF Submission”
Ireland as a leader tackling Climate Change
You may think I need a psychiatric assessment when I say I am really excited about the fact that I have to write numerous submissions in the coming weeks. The Citizens’ Assembly is inviting members of the public, representative groups and citizen organisations to make submissions on the third topic they will consider ‘How the StateContinue reading “Ireland as a leader tackling Climate Change”
Meeting Minister Naughten
On Tuesday May 2nd 2017 at 2pm I sat in my car at the Falls Hotel, Ennistymon, linked into Leinster House for a meeting with Denis Naughten, Minister for Communications, Climate Action and the Environment via mobile phone. If you know how the Irish system works you will appreciate the achievement in this. Thank you to my colleaguesContinue reading “Meeting Minister Naughten”

Up for the Game at Croke Park
Originally posted on TheresaOD.com:
Back in 1986 I dreamed of playing camogie with Ballyboden in Croke park. Little did I expect my big game to involve “a leading Irish law firm” at an energy conference in 2015 and my team to be the Environmental Pillar. For me, day two of the energy Ireland conference…
Eirgrid, the PPNs and “What is Participation in our Energy Transition?”
I became aware of this potentially subversive proposal within the Public Participation Networks PPNs over the Christmas period and I didn’t know what to do about it. Anyone I mentioned it to had a similar reaction as I did – it’s very suspicious. It is not sitting easy with me and I am one for trusting my gutContinue reading “Eirgrid, the PPNs and “What is Participation in our Energy Transition?””
